Five reasons you might consider a Virtual Visit

3/2/2022

Sometimes you just don’t want to leave the house to see a doctor for your nagging cough or your child’s runny nose. The good news? HealthSelect of Texas® participants, including those enrolled in Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM, can get care for many urgent, non-emergency health concerns from the comfort of home with Virtual Visits through Doctor On Demand® and MDLIVE®.

Here are five reasons you might consider a Virtual Visit the next time you’re putting off making a doctor’s appointment.

  • Convenience
With medical Virtual Visits, health care providers are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including holidays, without an appointment. You must make appointments in advance for mental health Virtual Visits. Appointments are typically available within 5-to-7 days.

  • Comfort
You can go online for your Virtual Visit or you can access Doctor On Demand or MDLIVE from your smartphone app. You don’t have to leave home to get care.

  • Limited Exposure
Because you don’t need to go to an office or clinic, you don’t have to worry about spreading — or getting — germs. Limiting exposure to illness is especially important for people with chronic diseases or weakened immune systems.

  • Family Matters
When you’re not feeling well, sometimes it can be helpful to have someone with you when you talk with your doctor. Many offices and clinics limit the number of people that can come to appointments. Through Virtual Visits, you can have someone with you when you get care.

  • Cost
Medical and mental health Virtual Visits through Doctor On Demand and MDLIVE are covered at 100% if you are enrolled in HealthSelect of Texas, HealthSelectSM Out-of-State or HealthSelectSM Secondary. This means you will pay nothing for medical and mental health Virtual Visits. If you are enrolled in Consumer Directed HealthSelect, you must meet your annual deductible before medical and mental health Virtual Visits are covered. After you meet your deductible, you will pay 20% coinsurance. COVID-19-related Virtual Visits are temporarily being covered at no cost for Consumer Directed HealthSelect through August 31, 2022. Learn more about COVID-related care.

Visit the Virtual Visits page to learn more about registering for Virtual Visits available through Doctor On Demand and MDLIVE. Registering in advance means you’ll be all set should you ever need to have a Virtual Visit.
